Bogey's Bar & Grill has a great menu that will satisfy all of your cravings. Since opening Oct. 1, 2009, owners Bobby DeVicchio and Carmen Lofaro have served up everything from Burgers and Wings to Veal Parmesan and Chicken Francaise. If you loved Bobby D's on Midlothian Boulevard in Youngstown, this is your place. Bobby D is back with all of your favorites from Italian Greens, Homemade Hot Peppers in Oil, Penne Calabrese and Manhattan Chicken, plus newer dishes that are sure to be your next favorite. The bar has three brand new HDTVs where you can watch all of your favorite games. Bogey's also has a full service bar and an outdoor patio. We hope to see you soon!
It's quiet on the outside and fun on the inside. Bogey's Bar and Grille in Lowellville serves up tasty Youngstown classics at an off-the-beaten-path location. Bobby DeVicchio and Carmen Lofaro opened up shop in 2010 and haven't slowed down since. If you were born and raised in Youngstown, you may remember DeVicchio as the owner of Bobby D's on the South Side. He sold Bobby D's and went into retirement for short time, but decided it was time to get back in business. They've recently brought in a new partner who also happens to be the chef; Mel McKee. The menu still features favorites from Bobby D's like Penne Calabrese and Manhattan Chicken, but the new additions, thanks to Mel, have taken the food to a whole new level.
For starters, be sure to order a plate of Bogey's Famous Italian Fried Greens. Escarole is sauteed with garlic and olive oil and topped with either a roasted sweet or Hungarian hot pepper. They look great and taste even better. Cooked just the way I like them, a bit al dente, the right amount of garlic and that hot pepper is the way to go. If you order a sandwich, make sure to add the greens to it. You'll be glad you did. There's another appetizer I tried and it's one I've never had before. Italian Egg Rolls. A blend of Italian cheeses, spinach and chopped tomatoes are wrapped in an egg roll wrapper and fried. Served with a side of marinara sauce, it's a glorified cheese stick and it's glorious. I love these and would definitely order them again.
Choosing your entree may be the most difficult thing you do at Bogey's. Mel's sauce in amazing and goes with everything from cavatelli and spaghetti to eggplant and chicken parm. Whatever you order, there's plenty of sauce to go with it and you won't leave one drop on your plate. I asked Mel what his favorite think on the menu was and his response, "I love my tomato sauce. I can drink it." After my first bite, I raise my fork to you Mel, cheers. I'm not the only one who feels that way. Mel makes about 75 gallons of that killer sauce every week. I had a plate of cavatelli and a plate of eggplant parm with spaghetti. Amazing.
If you're a burger lover, like me, you won't be disappointed. The menu has eight to choose from including the award winning, Pretzel Burger. A big 1/2 pound of Angus beef is topped with a yummy honey mustard and provolone. Another great choice is the Rodeo Burger. A sweet barbecue sauce tops off American cheese and crispy onion rings. Ask for extra napkins with this one. Need I say more? Yes, I will. How about a big portion of fresh cut fries on the side?
The kids will love the Jumbo Grilled Cheese. This guy's about a foot long, thick Italian bread, toasted lightly and oozing with American Cheese. Big kids will love the Jumbo BLT. Same jumbo bread bursting at the seams with a half pound of bacon. Add the fries and you'll leave stuffed and smiling.
Mel's also a master of the grill. I had delicious 12oz. New York Strip that was seasoned perfectly, tender, juicy, served with a big baked potato and a cup of soup or side salad. A great meal at a great price.
Everything on the menu is delicious. The portions are big and the prices are right. Bogey's is the perfect place to unwind after a long day at work or great place to head to on the weekend. When the weather is warm, the patio is open for dining and drinks. If it's not already, Bogey's will become your new favorite restaurant as it has become to many. Mel says "there are regulars who back every week on the same day, sit at the same table, and order the same thing." Pick out a table 'cuz they're going fast.
