I know you guys are always looking for new restaurants with ambiance and history and my husband and I just went out to dinner at a place called Lock 24 down in Lisbon. It was great! New owners bought it back in 2011 and are trying to make it an awesome place and so far are doing a great job. Restaurant is wonderful and the food is exquisite; they have a bar and entertainment upstairs with a band on Fridays and Saturdays! Check it out! Take Rt. 11 South to the Lisbon exit, turn Left and it is about a mile down the road on the right side. Owners are Randy and Rita.

The Lock 24 Restaurant: On My Local Register of Great Restaurants

The Lock 24 Restaurant is located in a barn that was built in the 1830's. Adjacent to the restaurant is the shortest authentic covered bridge in the United States. Originally called Church Hill Road Covered Bridge, it was built in 1875 but relocated in 1963 when the road was realigned. The bridge was posted on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Since the 1970's there have been a few previous owners/restaurants and a lot of renovations. Lock 24 is now owned by Randy Perrino and managed by, at the time of my review, his soon to be wife, Rita and are serving up some of the best food in the area.

The inside is wonderful and unique. A few modern touches blend with the old, large wood support beams in the middle of the dining room. The bar area overlooks a beautiful patio in a park-like setting. It's charming and the perfect place to go when you want to get away and go somewhere special.

When I found out I was coming here, I imagined big farm type meals so I came prepared and hungry. Well I got the big part right but never expected such elegant looking food. Chef Stephen prepared some dishes I have never had before but will definitely go back and have again. One word. DELICIOUS.

I started with a dish that looked too good to eat. Pita Chips with Spinach Artichoke Dip. A huge triangle shaped platter with a mound of fresh baked pita chips covered with melted mozzarella, chopped onions, tomatoes and chives surrounded a crock of yummy spinach artichoke dip. First of all, the chips were so crispy and tasted great with just that sprinkling of cheese. But, when dipped in the crock. Oh My! The creamy cheese blend was piping hot and so good that I couldn't stop eating them. I easily could've eaten the whole platter even though there's enough for the entire table. After eating this dish, adios traditional nachos, the high class nacho has arrived at The Lock 24 Restaurant. This one, hands down, is my new go to party snack.

Another first for me, Seafood Bouillabaisse. A rich soup of seafood and vegetables, I never imagined something could taste so good. Mussels, shrimp, clams and fish bites are mixed with potatoes and tomatoes in a garlic wine sauce that has just a little kick of heat. Tons of flavor, tons of ingredients. With all that seafood I thought it would be a bit too fishy for my liking. That couldn't be further from the truth. Absolutely delicious down to the last drop.

If you're looking for a great place for Prime Rib, I've found it. Grilled to perfection. Tender, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Served with an au jus and a homemade horseradish sauce, a side of smashed redskins and fresh broccoli. I never had anything quite like this growing up on the farm. You won't be disappointed with this one.

One thing I realized at The Lock 24 is the variety. A lot of restaurants have variety but are really only good at one type of food. Not here, it's all that good. I can't say enough how great the food is and just when I thought it couldn't get any better, out came a platter of Barbecue Ribs longer than my arm. I'm not kidding. Not served on a plate, served on a platter no less then 30 inches long. Trust me, I'm not exaggerating. Forget the fork because you won't need it. The meat just falls off as soon as you touch it. A full rack of tender ribs slathered in a mild sweet barbecue that will keep you licking your lips and sucking your fingers. I ate the whole slab AND a side of fresh cut fries. Yep, that would be me. Well it took me two days but I did it. Another reason to come back. More ribs please!

The Lock 24 Restaurant has a lot offer. Amazing entrees, great appetizers, salads, sandwiches, a full bar, and a children's menu. I love the location, love the building, and I most definitely love the food. They do everything right at The Lock.
